SENIOR SESSION
"I am reminded once again of the power of photography - to capture and preserve important and special moments in people's lives."
As a Lexington, South Carolina photographer, I get to photograph clients all around Lake Murray including Irmo, and Columbia, SC. Recently, I had the pleasure of photographing Sydney, a senior with a passion for dance and an exciting future ahead of her at Pace University to pursue dancing! Sydney's session was filled with energy and fun, and the South Carolina State Museum made sure we had the perfect location!
Sydney is an absolute sweetheart. We hit it off right away, making the entire session an enjoyable experience for both of us! She has such a beautiful smile, and she was so easy-going and willing to take on all of my excited requests if we were walking and I found good light. With Sydney being a dancer, her confidence was amazing when I would tell her all of my posing ideas. Not only would she do it, but she would run with it, and pose herself without needing me to tell her more. Just like the model she is!
She wore a gorgeous white, simple, and flowy dress, and it helped to make her images look airy and light. I love when my client's choose outfits that fit my style! She also brought her letterman jacket that she earned through dancing in high school. We incorporated the jacket into many of her photos, and I think those are some of my favorite images in the gallery! It added a personal touch to the session, capturing the essence of Sydney's hard work, determination, and passion. Her second outfit was nice with her college shirt and white pants. I love the simplicity, and also representing her future school!
The weather was wonderful! We had such a picture-perfect day with clear blue skies, a gentle breeze, and just the right amount of warmth. We started off at the side of the museum where it overlooks the Gervais bridge. We ended up going up onto the bridge to a do a couple of shots really quick. The sidewalk was pretty narrow, so the cars passing by felt pretty close as they zoomed past us! I didn't expect to feel so exposed on the bridge, so I shot those images pretty fast so we could move on. Oh my goodness. It was worth it because they turned out SO beautiful. The bokeh (the blurry background), and the light from the setting sun was absolutely gorgeous. We then went to a courtyard off to the side of the museum, and it was also perfect for portraits! The light brick ground illuminated Sydney's face beautifully, and the sun peeking through the trees were so dreamy. I told Sydney and her mom, if ever in the future they see this location used a thousand times for future clients, they are the reason! I loved it so, so much.
Behind every successful senior session, there is often a supportive parent, and Sydney's mom played that role flawlessly. From the initial contact through numerous emails, and a short duration to plan, Sydney's mom, Kamisha, was super responsive and made what could have been stressful, seamless and enjoyable. A photographer's job is made easier and so much more amazing when clients and their families are as delightful as Sydney and her mom!
I am reminded once again of the power of photography - to capture and preserve important and special moments in people's lives. This was more than a photoshoot, it was a celebration of her accomplishments, dreams, and the exciting journey that lies ahead. I wish her the very best as she embarks on her dance journey at Pace University in New York. I am so confident she will shine so bright!
