South Carolina State House

Engagement

I had the honor of capturing Sharon and Carlos's engagement session (my first!), and am planning on being their photographer for their wedding day!

When I started my business back in 2022, I imagined I would get majority of inquiries for maternity and engagements. I actually have found that my niche is in family and maternity photography, and I haven't had any engagements yet. I felt both excited and nervous to have Sharon and Carlos trust in me so confidently that I will be able to beautifully capture them as an engaged couple, and as husband and wife!

When we were deciding where to do their engagement pictures, we ultimately agreed that the State House would fit Sharon's vision! The inspiration she sent me from Pinterest were very clean backgrounds, elegant, and classy. With the State House's large columns, neutral colors, and simple backgrounds, it ended up being exactly that: elegant. Sharon chose to do two outfit changes: the first was a pale pink, tulle layered halter neck dress. Oh my goodness! This fit my style even better than I imagined, and she looked so beautiful in it! The layers and the tulle add so much texture to the photos against the simplicity of the stone. Her and Carlos were basically MODELS, and not only followed my direction, but ended up putting themselves into their own poses that looked so effortless. Her second outfit choice was a beautiful off the shoulder black dress. The black dress brought a bolder vibe to the shoot and gave it a more classy feel. I think she looked beautiful in both, and each dress successfully changed the feel of the photos.

We originally decided on a specific day to do the engagement session, but that day resulted in a downpour! Sharon was very relaxed about it all, but we mutually decided to reschedule the session so we wouldn't have to battle the rain and wind. The day of our session, I was watching the weather closely, and thought we were in the clear. It was a beautiful day and leading up to the session time, it was sunny and bright! Why...why is it that once I get to the State House, I see dark clouds moving fast to cover the sky? By the time we started our session, we maybe had 10 min of warm sunlight behind Sharon and Carlos, and then after that I battled a coolness and dark sky. It's okay though, because what I was able to capture was gorgeous!

I really enjoyed this session. Not only because of the personal connection I have (Carlos is actually my uncle!), but because I feel like I was able to freeze such a special moment in time for both of them. I'm so happy for them, and I can't wait to cover their wedding day!
