Senior session

This determined chick has always been headstrong when it comes to things she really wants, and boy, did she tell me I was going to be wrong when it came to the weather the day of her session.

My sister is graduating from college!! I cannot believe it!

No, really, I couldn't believe it. Since when is she graduating? Granted, she's been in college for four years when I think about it. And she talked to me about planning this senior session months in advance! I really, truly did not put the two together. BUT! In my defense, I barely remember my age on a daily basis. After 25, it takes me a minute to remember what sounds.... right.... Yup, I'm 27 until the summer.

I am so proud of her! She majored in Biology and (…maybe even double majored at one point?) Spanish. She joined a Latina sorority and was able to celebrate and represent our Mom's Panamanian culture. She used to be a traitor once upon a time and went to Clemson her freshman year. While I admit that Clemson has a gorgeous campus, that will very well be the only thing I will agree on. She transferred to UofSC her sophomore year, and I think everything else fell into place for her!

When I was in college, I was stuck in my dorm (sometimes the library which I loved!) with endless amounts of notes, assignments, studying for exams, and stress. Nursing school was traumatic to put lightly. While Sabrina has had her fair share of hard semesters that lead to anxiety breakdowns, she's also been able to maintain a social life! She has so many people that love her, and I feel like they are always doing something and going somewhere. And she's also a working girl! I didn't feel like I had time to work while in nursing school, let alone breathe or eat or sleep. She stays busy with school, and working, and making fun plans constantly.

She works as a vet tech and has been for a while now! Her first love is animals and she actually wanted to be a vet when she was super little. While she isn't currently following that track, she still gets to love on all the fur babies, and really enjoys where she works! Fun fact: We both adopted our doggie, Maya, who is a Bulgarian Shepherd, when we weren't supposed to. Surprise!! So, we are co-owners of our sweet and timid baby who currently lives with me.

This determined chick has always been stubborn and headstrong when it comes to things she really wants, and boy, did she tell me I was going to be wrong when it came to the weather the day of her session. We looked at the weather 1 week prior to her session date and it showed that there would be thunderstorms in the area. We decided to wait it out and hope for it to change leading up to the day. The day before, I had it in my mind that the day after would be better, because the weather said the entire next day would be sunny! She told me that the rain should be gone by the afternoon, and that we should keep the original day.

Me being the bigger sister, I already made up my mind. Her being the little sister, so did she. When I called her the day of her session, it did indeed rain! Like, DOWN POUR. Dark skies and all. Not a photographer's dream. She picked up my call, and at this point the rain and clouds were gone, like it never even happened. Just like she said. She was getting dressed and ready for this photo session! I was in my jammies ready to stay in my house, under my warm and cozy blanket, ready to do absolutely nothing. Oh...no. This girl was ADAMANT. I looked outside and saw...yes she was completely right. It was a sunny, clear blue afternoon like it never rained at all. So of course, we had to! And I'm so glad we did.

Sabrina is such a beautiful person. She has grown so much from my little annoying 5 year old sister to now. She grew her confidence, her determination, and who she feels she is as a person. She trusted me and my posing ideas and didn't laugh at me when I was running back and forth and climbing up on stuff to get the shot. I'm so glad that she let me make her feel beautiful! I absolutely love how her photos turned out. May is around the corner, and the baby of the family will be the last college graduate!
