Maternity Session

I already knew that Maddy was super easygoing, and talking with both of them felt like I was talking with friends I've had for a long time.

Oh my goodness, I cannot express enough how much I love this couple!

I work with Maddy in the NICU, and she is one of the sweetest people and a fantastic nurse. She reached out to me about taking her maternity photos, and I was excited to take on a coworker as a client! Starting my business, I haven't been the greatest about selling myself and getting my name out there through conversation - especially at work. So the fact that Maddy wanted me to take her pictures felt like a big deal.

The entire day of the session was scheduled to have severe storms. What's new for me as a photographer? Maddy and I were watching the weather and the radar trying to determine if we should reschedule, or just wait it out. She actually told me she wouldn't mind a few raining shots because her session was cutting close to her delivery date and had limited availability. So, we were both willing it to work and had positive attitudes throughout the day. Whatever happens, we'd go with it!

I had two clear umbrellas I was ready for them to use and bought a protective cover for my camera. I felt very prepared for the rain! When we got there, we were expecting at least the first half of our session to be dark without rain, and the last half to downpour. It indeed was pretty dark when we started our session, but once we kept going, I noticed the sun was peeking through the clouds! My excitement could NOT be contained! Mostly because I thought the sun peeking through was fleeting, so I tried to take as many pictures as possible. The sun did not waver, and it stayed out the rest of the session. I was elated! I think I made the comment that the session was meant to be at least three times the rest of the session through my huge smile.

I truly believed it! The session was for sure meant to happen! It was so amazing to see the weather give such a sweet surprise. I was also so glad we were able to do it because Maddy and Noah are such sweet people. They were so accommodating and willing to do whatever I needed based on the weather and the sun that was now shining through the clouds and the trees. I already knew that Maddy was super easygoing, and talking with both of them felt like I was talking with friends I've had for a long time. It was so effortless, our session. We would laugh in between shots and while we were walking, and talk about how excited they were about their sweet baby girl about to arrive. I told them that I am biased, having two girls myself, but I think having a girl first is so fun. It's what I needed as a new mom. I see my first as a true version of myself when I was little, and so with that comes the stubborn will and fiery attitude. Even then, I wouldn't change it for the world.

I love both of the dresses Maddy chose for her session! The pink color was gorgeous on her, and the floral under the vines and greenery matched so well! I think they both fit her so beautifully, and I could tell from her demeanor that she also felt comfortable and beautiful. When I advise outfits to clients, that's one of the key points that I stress the most: to feel comfortable in whatever you choose. Because when you feel comfortable, it translates into the photos, and in turn makes you more likely to love how they turn out!

I have shot many sessions at this location now; I think the Riverwalk Park by the Gervais bridge is one of my favorites! I feel like depending on the season it can look so different. Each time I use this location, I find a new spot that I love, and one of those spots were with the flowering trees in the background! I haven't gotten to experience this time of year yet photographing a client here, so to be able to have such a pretty background was so exciting to me.

I am so thankful that Maddy chose me to photograph her pregnancy. It was so great to be able to get to know her and Noah on a more personal level, and I know with my whole heart they are going to be fantastic parents to their sweet girl, Nora. Congratulations you two!
