COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA

Columbia Canal and Riverfront Park

SENIOR SESSION

"Carmen was so great in humoring me when I would say 'one more!', and it indeed was not just one more"

I am so excited to share a session I did recently in Downtown Columbia at the Riverfront Park! Carmen is a high school senior and she plans to attend the University of South Carolina in the fall! She is planning on majoring in biology with big aspirations to become a physician. I can only imagine that the road to medical school will be tough, but with her intelligence and determination, I know she will achieve anything. She is also so personable and sweet. That is so important for bedside manner to make patients feel comfortable! As a registered nurse, I remember doctors that share these qualities.

The Riverfront Park is a common place for portraits where we live! Because of that, I had a few places in mind where I wanted to take her pictures. Just like my previous senior sessions earlier in the month, my plans for where I think I may go is not always where we end up! I love when thinking on the spot results into some of my favorite images! The weather was also beautiful! Not too hot but warm enough, and the sun was shining so wonderfully. About an hour before sunset, I caught the glow of the sun through the trees. I'm pretty sure we stayed in the same place (but got SO much variety and different portraits) for about 20 min! It made my photographer heart so, so happy.

Carmen's outfits were so great as well. Her beautiful white and flowy dress was gorgeous, and it fit my style perfectly! When my clients ask about outfit recommendations, I always suggest neutral colors and earthy tones. The reason is because bold colors can make an image look darker, whereas lighter colors make the image feel lighter and more airy which is more my choice in editing style. She also brought an outfit that represented UofSC. Loved that! Ya'll already know how I feel about Carolina. We are a Gamecock household!

I had such a great time with Carmen and her mom. I felt as though we were constantly talking in between shots, laughing, and truly having so much fun. Carmen was so great in humoring me when I would say "one more!", and it indeed was not just one more, haha. What is really neat is that my mom and her mom are college best friends! So their company felt natural and so familiar even though I haven't seen them in many years!

I am so thrilled about how these photos turned out. Carmen's smile and light is so infectious, and her spirit is amazing. She danced through high school, and I'm sure that helped with posing in public, because it can feel awkward! Especially with people around. But, she was incredible throughout the entire session and always willing to do anything I suggested! Carmen, I am SO excited for you and can't wait for you to become an amazing physician. Cheers to you and your journey ahead!
