Adalyn smash cake

First Birthday session

I feel so honored to have been able to photograph Miss Adalyn three times now! When I look back at the first session with her and her mom, Rachel, I can't believe how much she's grown in the year.

The first time I photographed this sweet family was Rachel and Adalyn's Mommy and Me session for Mother's day. You can read the blog and see my favorite images from that session here! I remember distinctly being so comfortable with Rachel and her husband, Trey, and we'd talk about anything and also nothing, haha! Adalyn was only 4 months old in those pictures, and she was a small little thing. She was shy, of course, but having a one year old at the time, I knew to go with the flow. Right from the start I saw that she loved her mama to pieces! I was able to capture the sweetest of smiles during that session because of how much she loves her mama.

The one thing that I remember the most from that session is that The Little Mermaid would make her smile even while tears were in her eyes, streaming down her face because she was done taking pictures. She absolutely LOVES that movie and the song "Part of Your World". I distinctly remember thinking, we must look so silly belting out The Little Mermaid on the State House grounds at 8 in the morning. It was so worth it! So, it made all the sense that the theme for her first birthday would be her favorite thing in the world!

This is my first, first birthday session other than when I took my daughter's first birthday pictures. So I was mentally trying to prepare and make sure that the background and decorations would be cute enough for this sweet girl. I think it all came together wonderfully! And she totally rocked her session! She was well rested after her midday nap, and she was in such a great mood for most of the session. There were a few times when she would wonder off, and we would reset her, which would then upset her - you can see which photos I'm referring to below! - but her girl, Ariel, came through on Disney +. And after that, she was just in awe staring at the TV.

Rachel had this cute jean jacket she really wanted to photograph Adalyn in, and oh my goodness. It has her name on the back?? So stinking cute! I was able to capture one where she was facing away which showed her name, and it's easily one of my many favorite images from her session.

I want to thank Rachel (and Trey!) for trusting me with capturing these special moments. Her and Adalyn's first Mother's Day, their first Christmas as a family of 3, and Adalyn as a one year old! I know that these will be the pictures they will be able to look back on in the future.

Enjoy these sweet photos!!

p.s. Lee and I are thinking about maybe going on a Disney cruise in the future!! It was HIGHLY recommended by both Trey and Rachel during our shoot, haha! They are such travelers, and I was so engrossed by everything they loved about it. We're really considering it now as a possible graduation gift for Lee, so thank ya'll!
